The Director Operations acts on a country level with multi-site responsibility for RUAG Space USA’s facilities in Decatur, AL and Titusville, FL. This position will ensure manufacturing-compatible product development, transferring of the products into serial production, and the efficient and quality-assured manufacturing of the products. This position will also oversee development of core competencies and processes in Supply Chain Management and Manufacturing Engineering.  This position will lead the Operations Managers of the plants and production units with the cross-sectional functions HSSE, Quality, Operational Excellence and Facility Management.

 

Job Responsibilities:

  • Leads the Operations Management team of the US
  • Owns and oversees the strategy for the execution of the following activities:
    • Design for Manufacturing, Assembly, Integration and Testing
    • Manufacturing of the products and transfer into the production units
    • Efficient Supply Chain Management and supplier integration into the development process
  • Leads and directs the Operations Managers of the plants and production units through efficiency in
    • Demand and capacity planning
    • Manufacturing Execution
    • Materials management
    • Quality management and quality control
    • Productivity improvement initiatives
  • Proactively communicates and aligns with the adjacent Directors of Operations for best practice and synergies on a global scale
  • Leads a team of direct reports, performing the HR processes such as competence planning, recruitment, performance management, development etc.
  • Leads according to the RUAG Space’s Values and Code of Conduct, and drives the people & leadership development within the Subdivision
  • Develops and encourages the culture of openness in the organization with a special focus on diversity aspects

 

Job Requirements:

  • Education in Engineering, M.Sc. level preferred (or equivalent experience)
  • Management track record from leading leaders in an international environment
  • Solid technical and production background in a project-based industry
  • Experience in applying Operational Excellence Methods (lean manufacturing, six sigma, etc.)
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Holistic view and good analytical skills
  • Solution driven, willing to make a difference, strong entrepreneurial thinking and coordination skills
  • Strong motivator with high energy level and persistence to overachieve goals
  • Cooperative leader who puts success of team first
  • Open-minded, strong communicator and networker, willingly involves others and shares information
  • High stress resistance and perseverance, able to be highly organized and prioritize in a complex matrix environment
  • Space or Aerospace experience preferred
