We are now looking for a strong candidate who is passionate about electronics engineering to help us take the next step in moving forward and further develop our electronics engineering department in Tampere (Finland).

 

Description of the role

As Manager Electronics Engineering you take on the main responsibility for Electronics Engineering at RUAG Space in Tampere, with the long-term goal of profitable growth both in terms of size and in the product portfolio. In doing this you are working together with other Electronics Engineering departments within RUAG Space in a cross-country set-up (eg. Sweden, Austria), taking responsibility for and providing expertise and products to projects in a multi-site environment.

 

You are, in close co-operation with other RUAG Space Electronics and Software sites and departments, responsible for creating and coaching high-performance teams with focus on successful execution and delivery both of customer projects and product developments.

 

Your area of responsibility also covers finding and optimizing synergies between our sites, working towards alignment of methods and tools, and creating a strong culture of innovation and continuous improvements, as well as continuing the implementation of agile ways of working.

 

 

Your responsibilities 

  • Responsible for the local Electronics Engineering activities, with a pro-active collaboration with the adjacent teams within the RUAG Space Electronics Engineering and Software Engineering groups.
  • Provides expertise to development and series projects/programs/objects/products.
  • Develops competence needed in the teams and pushes for innovation and continuous improvement (know-how/tools/methods).
  • Finds and optimizes synergy effects between the teams within the department, as well as with adjacent departments, concerning resources, competences, building-blocks, design solutions etc.
  • Develops and implements the relevant engineering processes and ensures the alignment of these within RUAG Space Electronics Engineering.
  • Takes part in and actively contributes to the strategic work within the RUAG Space Electronics Engineering group.
  • Supports the definition of R&D-, competences- and technologies strategy and roadmap within the Electronics Engineering group together with adjacent/interfacing teams.
  • Has the managerial and leadership responsibility towards own direct reports, performing HR processes such as competence planning, recruitment, performance management, development etc. as well as overall line management responsibility over the assigned Engineering teams.
  • Has budget responsibility for the costs of the department as well as technical, budget and schedule responsibility for fulfilment of tasks assigned by projects, including overall efficiency of the teams.
  • Proactively communicates and aligns with adjacent Engineering departments for best practice and synergies.
  • Leads according to the RUAG Space’s Values and Code of Conduct and drives the people and leadership development within the department.

 

This role is combined with the Managing Director position for RUAG Space in Finland. This includes representing the legal entity towards authorities and the national space agency.

 

Your profile

  • Experience from leadership roles, with an interest in leadership and leadership development, and good coaching abilities. You have a cooperative leadership style, who puts success of team first, willing to share experience and knowledge.
  • Know-how of Space Products design development and verification- (DDV). Understanding, competence and experience in relevant Engineering processes, tools, and methodologies.
  • Excellent communication and co-operation skills, as well as capacity- and budget planning expertise.
  • Education in Electrical/Software/Aerospace Engineering, M.Sc. level, or corresponding experience, with a proven expertise and track record in Electronics Engineering.
  • Solution driven, willing to make a difference, strong customer experience thinking.
  • Strong motivator with high energy level and persistence to overachieve goals.
  • Open-minded, strong communicator and networker, willingly involves others and shares information.
  • High stress resistance and perseverance, able to keep structured and prioritize in a complex environment.
  • Interested in the Space Industry developments, both regarding new technology as well as business models.
  • Change agent and driver of standardization, improvements, and efficiency gains.
  • Service provider mindset.
  • Language skills: Fluent English and Finnish required. German or Swedish useful.
