System Engineer


RUAG Space USA, Inc. (RSU) is a U.S. incorporated company, staffed 100% with U.S. persons.  We are registered with the U.S. Department of State as a manufacturing and exporter of defense articles, as required under ITAR. The RSU Denver Electronics team works in concert with RUAG Space Product Units (PUs) in Europe.

RUAG Space is a leading supplier of products for the institutional and commercial space markets in Europe and the USA. RUAG Space has three product groups:

  • Space Electronics
    • Electronics delivering computers and interface units for satellites and launchers, navigation receivers & signal processing, power & drive electronics, microwave for telecom satellites and space antennas.
  • Spacecraft Hardware
    • Spacecraft delivering structures, mechanisms, slip rings, thermal systems and MGSE.
  • Launch Systems
    • Launchers delivering fairings, structures, adapters, dispensers and sounding rocket guidance systems.

With over 40 years of experience in the development of cutting-edge space technologies, RUAG has more than 1,100 hardware systems on-orbit with 100% operational success including more than 300 launches without failure.



This position reports to the RSU Director of Electronics and will work with a team responsible for helping to build a portfolio of contracts with U.S customers as well as to execute a variety of tasks on existing projects. The Denver Electronics team supports 5 Product Units from RUAG Space in Europe – Digital Electronics, Power and Drive Electronics, Navigation Receivers and Signal Processing, Microwave, and RF Antennas.

  • Provides systems engineering support for contracts and internal projects. This includes supporting both software and hardware design engineers as well as working with vendors. 
  • Develops in-depth technical knowledge of the product lines for the PUs represented.
  • Maintains technical proficiency and consults with prospective customers regarding use of company products and services.
  • Analyzes existing and anticipated customer requirements and promotes consideration of company products and services to fill such requirements.
  • Prepares technical inputs for whitepapers, ROMs, and proposals. Coordinates with the PUs represented on the technical aspects of those documents.
  • Conducts sales presentations.
  • Supports conferences and customer meetings as needed.



  • Bachelor’s Degree in a technical field related to the 5 Electronics Product Areas.
  • More than 10 years of experience in the aerospace or defense industry.
  • Experience with preparing whitepapers/ROMs/proposals.
  • Ability to travel less than 25% of the time, including international travel.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen.



  • Master’s Degree in a technical field related to the 5 Electronics Product Areas.
  • Experience throughout engineering lifecycle (system definition, design, build, test, and on-orbit operations)
  • Positive attitude, accountable and responsible and able to work in a team-focused, dynamic environment
  • Ability to flourish with minimal guidance, be proactive, and handle uncertainty.
  • Comfortable working with geographically dispersed teams.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Self-Starter with strong problem solving skills and the ability to multitask.
  • Demonstrated behaviors of a systems thinker; selects and applies appropriate systems thinking skills to solve very complex problems and implement constructive change
  • Experience with one or more of the following:
    • Satellite on-board computers
    • Satellite power systems
    • Satellite GPS/GNSS transmitters and receivers, including signal processing. In particular, Navigation Signal Generators for satellites, mission receivers for critical CDMA communication, chirp generators, and equalizers for transmitted satellite navigation signals
    • Design and test of satellite RF antennas- in particular, wide coverage antennas for TT&C, data links, GNSS receivers, and beacons; reflector antennas for inter-sallite link and data downlink; array antennas for GNSS and mobile communication, diplexers, test caps; antenna measurement services
    • Receivers / Converters and LNAs for satellite communication payloads – in particular, C, Ku, and Ka band for payloads in LEO and GEO
    • Local oscillator and Ka-band slice converters and LNAs for satellites
  • Proficient in Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
